Ep 144: Beyond Health with Megan Swan

Are you seeking a healthy life? Most of us are, but what if that’s the wrong goal?

What if, instead of health, we decide to seek wellness? What if, beyond health, there is a beautiful place called ‘wellness’? In our culture today we are often bombarded with wellness products and wellness lifestyles, but what does that really mean?

It’s interesting to look at the roots of the word ‘wellness’, which was popularized in the 1950s as a blend of ‘wellbeing’ and ‘fitness’. It fell in and out of favor until the 2000s, and then we see the word being co-opted to include everything from beauty products to human resources. Confused? No doubt!

My guest on the podcast today, Megan Swan, has her own spin on wellness, and we talked about her modern approach to wellness that takes us beyond health (health has been defined as the opposite of disease) to a 360 degree approach.

Megan Swan Wellness is her brand, and she teaches the foundation of wellness to include strategic practices that are both sustainable and easy. I love this conversation because we touch on many of the foundations that I also believe create a beautiful and balanced state of well-being; i.e. wellness.

Here are some highlights:

  • Her Eat, Pray, Love decision that landed her in Mexico for 15 years
  • Yoga was her ‘gateway drug’ to wellness
  • You are what you eat, but you are also what you consume
  • Two of her wellness pillars: Creativity & Pleasure (#6) and Nourishment #2
  • A plan to feel satiated mentally, physically, and emotionally
  • If you want to feel more alive, eat more foods that are alive!

Megan also shares practical tips to identify and explore burnout.

This is a conversation you won’t want to miss!
