Ep. 76: Let’s Talk About Sex! with Sarah Olsen

Yes – we really do talk about sex and sober sex in this episode. Sarah Olsen is a fellow coach who is willing to open up this conversation about what happens in the bedroom when we stop drinking.

Like all areas of our lives, when we make a change around alcohol, things change. Relationships evolve, priorities shift and many times we also find a shift in how we are showing up sexually. We might have bought into the ‘story’ that alcohol is a ‘sexual lubricant’ that helps us loosen up. Or, we might actually have a partner who expresses “you were more fun when you were drinking”. We might feel completely in our head and find it hard to connect with our body in a way that makes sex feel natural and fulfilling. Sarah helps us explore communication as the number one tool to better sex; how to reframe losing our virginity all over again; and why you should focus on what draws you to your partner vs. what you find sexually attractive.

This conversation touches on many important parts of this subject:

  • What is my partner thinking?
  • What does everyone mean when they say “sober sex is the best sex”, and why doesn’t it feel that way for me?
  • Why sober sex is like losing our virginity all over again
  • The physical affects of alcohol on our bodies and the sex act
  • Why the brain is an important part of intimacy
  • The risks of drunken sex, physically and emotionally
  • How to respond when someone says “you were more fun when you were drinking”.
